BPCL Partners With Volks Energie For India’s First LFP-Based Solar Energy Initiative

India’s first LFP-battery-powered Solar Power Plant for Oil & Gas Pipelines will be spread across 14 strategic locations

“Our proven track record in deploying solar solutions with pipeline projects using Nickel-Cadmium (Ni-Cd) batteries positions us uniquely to implement the first-of-its-kind LFP-based system.” Piyush Goyal, CEO, Volks Energie

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has entrusted VolksEnergie, a leader in Energy Storage Solutions, HVAC, & Solar Energy solutions, to deploy solar power plants. Solar power plants will be equipped with LFP-based (Lithium Ion Phosphate) Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) in this first-of-its-kind move. The deployment will be spread across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana at 14 strategic locations.
This project marks BPCL’s foray into leveraging the advanced LFP batteries for its oil and gas pipeline project. This is a pivotal move in India’s progress towards advanced energy solutions. As part of the project, Volks Energie will be deploying a combined battery capacity of 1.6 MWh. EIL will oversee the entire project as a project management consultant.
Piyush Goyal, CEO at Volks Energie, expressed his enthusiasm about the project, “We are honoured to partner with BPCL to implement this pioneering project and contribute to India’s move towards sustainability and solar energy. Our proven track record in deploying solar solutions with pipeline projects using Nickel-Cadmium (Ni-Cd) batteries positions us uniquely to implement the first-of-its-kind LFP-based system. It’s a significant technical advancement and we look forward to being India’s trusted partners in sustainability and clean energy solutions.”
This deployment of LFP batteries is a strategic move, as the batteries offer a better lifespan and higher energy density. Compared to other traditional batteries, deploying LFP batteries offers pragmatic benefits like improved safety, longer battery lifespan, and higher energy density.
With this project, LFP batteries are being deployed for the first time in such an intensive and sensitive oil and gas pipeline project. To the same end, Volks Energie has committed to deploying batteries with world-class safety systems, including an automatic fire suppression system. This will ensure no damage occurs to the sensitive pieces of equipment at the stations.
India’s growing focus on sustainability and clean energy solutions makes this a pivotal move. Successful completion of the project is expected to pave the way for nationwide adoption of LFP-based solar power systems.
