The new Maruti Suzuki Dzire, launched in the Indian market recently, has scored a five-star result for adult and four stars for child occupant safety.

“The new Dzire’s five-star rating sets a significant safety benchmark for Maruti Suzuki compared to the previous version of this model and others from Maruti we have tested. Global NCAP warmly welcomes this milestone voluntary test result. “We are optimistic that going forward Maruti will seek to achieve this high level of safety performance across their model range. If they do, it will be a vehicle safety game changer for Indian consumers.” David Ward, Executive President of the Towards Zero Foundation

The new Maruti Suzuki Dzire, launched in the Indian market this week, has scored a five-star result for adult and four stars for child occupant safety. Fitted with six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and pedestrian protection as standard, the new Dzire is the first Maruti Suzuki to achieve a five-star Global NCAP rating.
Global NCAP’s crash test protocols assess frontal and side impact protection for all models, as well as Electronic Stability Control (ESC). Pedestrian protection and side pole impact protection assessments are required for vehicles scoring the highest star ratings (*).
David Ward, Executive President of the Towards Zero Foundation said, “The new Dzire’s five star rating sets a significant safety benchmark for Maruti Suzuki compared to the previous version of this model and others from Maruti we have tested. Global NCAP warmly welcomes this milestone voluntary test result.
“We are optimistic that going forward Maruti will seek to achieve this high level of safety performance across their model range. If they do, it will be a vehicle safety game changer for Indian consumers.”
The new Dzire was submitted by Maruti Suzuki to Global NCAP for voluntary testing. The structure and footwell area were rated as stable and can withstand further loadings. The car offers three-point belts in all seating positions. i-Size anchorages are included as standard. The chest of the driver dummy in the frontal test showed marginal protection. The pole test showed full head protection and the side impact test showed full protection for the adult occupants. The new Dzire offers six airbags, ESC and pedestrian protection as standard.
The 18-month-old dummy showed full protection and the three-year-old dummy showed good protection to head and chest while neck protection could be improved by installing a rearward facing CRS. Side impact protection for child occupants showed full protection.
The Dzire assessment for the previous model was part of a Global NCAP initiated test with a rating of two stars for adult occupant protection and two stars for child occupant protection. Production of this model will come to an end this year. The outgoing Dzire offers two frontal airbags and ESC as standard. The structure and footwell area were rated as unstable. The side impact test showed weak protection to the dummy chest and the pole test was not performed as this model does not offer side head protection, even as an option.
Both child dummy occupants were seated in a rearward facing CRS. Both used ISOFIX anchorages and a support leg. Child dummy head contact with the interior of the car and the lack of three point belts in all seating positions explain the low child occupant rating.
